So for this project the theme was to bring the east over to the west, mainly Japan and American animation as they are the big leagues.
These as well mix and matched eras' from 1960s to present.
The first character I did was from my favourite series Fullmetal Alchemist in the style of rick an morty's Summer.

Fullmetal Alchemist is an animated series from Manga, set in a country called Amestris. Paninya is a side character I have chosen from the main characters in the show. Written and illustrated by Hiromu Arakawa, similar to a steam punk genre after the European industrial revolution era. Published in 2001, then made into several animated series and movies. Animated through a company called Bones.
I thought to stylise them into a western style of Rick and Morty, Summer as reference. An adult swim animated series/cartoon network, created by Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland, released 2013.Animation was done through Toon Boon Harmony, post production done through After Effects. Style is inspired by the Simpsons.
I noticed that Hiromus' style is soft lines with point's or strong lines on her character to to indict their intentions, personality, power etc. Much like Rick and Morty the kind and friendly characters have soft lines, whilst Rick has sharp hard lines that indict danger.

My second character was Sailor in the style of peanuts, 80s to 60s etc. Sailor moon a Shojo (female teen demographic) manga series, written and illustrated by Noakao Takeuchi orginally released 1991. Usagi Tsukino, or as we know her as sailor moon follow her search for a magical artifact, the "Legendary Silver Crystal" . Recurring motifs include astronomy, astrology, gemology, Greek and Roman mythology, teen fashions, and schoolgirl antics. Adapted into animation 1992 by Toei animation
I decided to use peanuts by Charles M.Schulz, an French-American series based on the homonym comic strip series. produced by Lee Mendelson Films and directed by Bill Melendez from 1965. Peanuts plot follows young children, The main character, Charlie Brown, is a meek, nervous kid who lacks self-confidence. Design follows that of the comic strips.
Noakao's style and characters have long slender limbs and bodies, however have soft lines. Peanuts are soft lined however pudgy and baby like. Maybe to relate to children bodies in an exaggerated way.

Elizabeth from Seven deadly sins another Japanese animated series, adapted from Manga illustrated and written by Nakaba Suzuki. The series debuted on MBS, TBS and other JNN stations in 2014. Created by A1 Pictures, directed by Tensai Okamura. Setting similar to the European Middle Ages, with its titular group of knights representing the seven deadly sins and a Holy War. As Adora, He –mans twin sister who leads a group of freedom fighters known as the Great Rebellion in the fight to free Etheria from the tyrannical rule of Hordak and the Evil Horde. She-ra: Princess of Power series style, An American animated series produced in 1985 by Filmation. A spin-off of Filmation's He-Man and the Masters of the Universe series, aimed at a young female audience. Directed by Gwen Wetzler in 1985. The 80s had more hard lines in she -ra and curves. However these were not soft to show strength, and they seem to want the characters to signify this. Whereas in the modern seven deadly sins characters are soft but you can not really tell how much power in within these characters have within them. Almost as if that is the point. As they seem too friendly initially.
